Multimedia Instruction; Text, Images and Video
Internet, Print, Thumb drive or CD Technical copywriting combined with Photoshop graphics can create printed or web based (HTML) user manuals, operation instructions, technical documents and Powerpoint presentations. If needed, video can be employed to create a multimedia presentation. The HTML formated presentations can be delivered via the Internet or on a USB Flash Drive or CD-ROM.

Advantages of Web based (HTML) delivery (text, images, video):

  • User can read and print instructions.
  • If video is included, user can also watch demonstration video.
  • Available 24/7 anywhere in the world via the Internet.
  • Available using CD or USB Flash Drive (if no Internet access).
  • Information delivery without cost/hassle of instructor traveling to user site.
  • Multimedia; Text With Video
One effective format for an HTML multimedia presentation is to have a text description on the left side of the page and a video that is associated with the description on the right side of the page. This format allows the user to read the instructions and then see a video demonstration of the concept described.

The example below summarizes basic principles for shooting video. The principle conveyed is, "The best image is captured by correctly combining background, framing and lighting".

    Description Video

    Use dark background
    Background
Be aware of the background. A bright background or a light source behind the subject will cause back lighting or a shadow. Generally, you want a dark, solid background to provide a nice contrast with the subject.

    Fill view with subject
    Framing
Get close to the subject and capture as much detail as possible. Fill the view finder with the subject. Often the best image is not head on, but from an angle to allow view of two sides of the subject.

    Light source behind Lighting
Make sure your subject is well lit. If there is not enough light, you may have to adjust the exposure on the camera or use additional lighting. A simple work light is a good choice for additional directional lighting. The general rule is to have the light source behind or off to the side of the camera.

    Review

  • Use a dark, solid background.
  • Subject should be well lit, adjust camera exposure or use extra lights.
  • Light source should be behind or next to the camera.
  • Shoot from an angle, not head on.
  • Get close, show detail and fill screen with subject.
