Segment Descriptions
Las Vegas and Zion National Park
A number of years ago I started to make a list of the places I wanted to visit. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon were locations that were on this list. These three canyons are located in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona and are within about 150 miles of each other. I contacted my friend, Marv Hein, who lives in Las Vegas. Marv said that he would show us around Las Vegas and, if we did not mind sleeping on the floor, we could stay at his place the first night. From Las Vegas we drove to our first destination, the vertical rock walls and narrow canyons of Zion National Park.

Hiking around Bryce Canyon
The multi-colored rocks and unusual vertical pillars of stone called "hoodoos" highlight this walk through the maze of stone in Bryce canyon. Bryce is not a true canyon, but rather a series of horseshoe shaped amphitheaters. The Indian name for the area roughly translates as; "Red rocks standing like men in a bowl shaped canyon".

Havasupai reservation, Grand Canyon
The last canyon we visited was on the Havasupai Indian reservation. The Havasupai Reservation is located in one of the most beautiful and remote areas of the western Grand Canyon. The Village of Supai, is located in Havasu Canyon, a southwestern branch of the Grand Canyon, and is accessible only by foot, horseback, or helicopter. It is a 6-mile hike into the Grand Canyon to the Havasupai reservation. On day two, we followed the blue-green water of the Havasu creek through a canyon with 1000 foot, vertical stone walls. We passed the 190-foot Mooney falls during our 4-mile trek from the camp grounds to our turn around point at Beaver Falls.
